Floodlights INSTALLED! 08/12/2023

8th December 2023

WE GOT THERE! All courts are now available for booking. (Court 5 was released 5 minutes ago.) Note: there WILL be teething problems – as with any large project. Please be kind to us as we streamline the massive changes which have just taken place.

Member/coach comments are that the lights give a good light, with few shadows. We all hope you like them!

Here is a reminder about how to use the floodlights, using our booking system (video).

TOKENS: Just a reminder – we would prefer that you “spend” any tokens you have remaining, as the bar does not hold much cash. That would be helpful if possible. If not, please liaise with Tracey and the Stewards and they will swap for cash when they have enough spare in the till.

At this point in proceedings, we can thank the Committee for all their concerted efforts over, it must be, 5 or 6 years! Colin Pow & Graeme Hawkins for being major cogs in the wheel for this planning application: installers Luminance Pro and our very own Sussex Sparks (Graham and Chris) – who have been absolutely excellent. I also helped to glue it all together – but that’s fun compared to the massive grunt work the others have undertaken.

(One day we will look back and laugh at the token system we used to have!)

Go Pav!

CASHING-IN LIGHT TOKENS – we don’t carry much cash in the bar for refunds, but you can certainly use tokens as part-payment for goods from the bar – drinks, balls, food etc. The Stewards will credit you with £4 for each one returned. (Sorry – no change given – it makes accounting too complicated.) I hope this is ok for everyone.

Please direct any queries to me – Malc. Thanks.

29th November 2023

Courts 1, 6, 7, 8 are now live to be booked with floodlights. This is a “soft launch”, i.e. we are not shouting about it yet! We will shout, but in good time… (hint – after courts 2-5 have been swapped to LED at the end of next week.)

Here is a video about how to use the new booking system with floodlights (currently cts 1, 6, 7, 8) which works very much the same as booking the bubble: i.e. you have to have money in your Ebookings account.

Please use the new floodlights if you wish, and report any issues to Malc at malcsimmonds@gmail.com for the next week or so, during the remainder of the testing phase. We appreciate your help.

Here is a video of how to book lights on court 1/6/7/8 using the new Ebookings functionality.

Here is our page with details of how to install the Ebookings app, and get it on the home screen of your phone.

28th November 2023

Courts 2-5 have just been cleared for booking from today till Sunday Dec 3rd.

Court 2-5 are out of action from Monday Dec 4th, and probably at least to Tuesday 5th while LED lights are fitted.

Courts 1, 6, 7, 8 should be bookable with lights from sometime this week, ready for next Monday latest, so we should have no time without lit courts. The lights will be booked from within the Ebooking app. It will be important to have credit on your account in Ebooking – see Booking a court for how to get the app. Training on the details of using the new booking system will follow.

(Be aware the new booking system is being tested right now; so if you see lights can be booked for £0.01p, don’t believe it – just come back later. )

Note: this is a fluid situation as we work the new system out. But it’s looking GOOD!

Updated Friday 24th Nov 2023

The new floodlights have now been installed on courts 1, 6, 7 and 8. They will be functional when the electric controls have been fully installed/connected in 1-2 weeks. We will let you know when you can book them, which will be done using an add-on to our existing Ebooking Online system. (You will need to have an account balance to be able to book and pay for lights – as with the bubble. )

Also, in 1-2 weeks, Luminance Pro will be returning to change the lights on courts 2 to 5 to LEDs – which are much more reliable and cheaper to run. (Date to be confirmed. Floodlight fees will also be reduced, tbc.)

Court bookings on 6/7/8  have been restricted from Thursday, 30th November from an abundance of prudence but, as events proceed, some of these days will be released for bookings.

On Monday 27th Nov there is a key meeting, so please keep checking the Ebooking app daily from then – where you will see live booking information.

It looks as if Luminance Pro will easily meet their target of completing this work by Christmas. (Hopefully, not famous last words ). [Seriously – we are genuinely impressed with them.]

We will keep you informed as we progress. Thanks for your assistance and understanding as we finish off this massive project, which will hugely improve the club’s facilities and last for many years into the future.
