Davis Cup and Federation Cup players come to Pav & Ave

Members of the club were treated to high-octane exhibition play as well as top-level coaching last Saturday (January 27th).

Ex-Davis Cup player Danny Sapsford and former Federation Cup pro Jocelyn Rae wowed the crowds with their skills, as well as passing on tips in a series of coaching sessions.

The highlight of the afternoon was an exhibition doubles match between Danny and Jocelyn and our brilliant young girls – Sonay Kartal & Tiana Fox (who are seen in the main picture).

The event was organised in conjunction with sporting charity Bright Ideas for Tennis which aims to raise participation levels and improve facilities across the country.

Members were put through their paces with a series of drills to sharpen their technique, and were also given the opportunity to test their serve against a speed gun.

Head Coach Julie Hobbs, former UK #1 and nine-time Wimbledon competitor said: “Everyone had a fantastic day, and we’d like to thank Danny and Jocelyn for the expertise and entertainment they shared.”

Danny Sapsford, Director of Bright Ideas for Tennis, said: “‘We had a fantastic day at Pav & Ave on Saturday. It was great to see so many enthusiastic players. It’s so important for clubs to have a great coaching team complimented by a passionate committee, and in both areas Pav & Ave are in good hands – it was no surprise that the Charity event was a huge success.  Tennis really is a game for all ages and abilities, and this was perfectly highlighted by the ranges that we saw on court, but the common denominator throughout the whole day was that we all had fun!”
