Pav& Ave 2’s win 4 – 0 again – this time against the Weald
Finally it stopped raining and blowing a gale on Saturday 19th the September for the 2 nd team match
away to the Weald 4 th Team. From a strong squad skipper, Moss had selected Tray, big Al, Joel and
skipper for the day Colin.
Tray and Colin quickly dispatched the Weald second pair 6-0:6-3, although a slight loss of
concentration meant a tighter second set until they refocused at 3-3 to take the set 6-3. solid
baseline play from Tray and sound serving from Colin did the trick. Big al and Joel had what sounds
like an easy 6-2:6-3 against their 1 st pair but it was tighter than the score suggests as they
acknowledged but Joel’s lefty serve and Big All’s predatory net play saw them through in the end.
The reverse rubbers saw Big Al and Joel quickly put away their opponents 6-2:6-1. With Al
sadistically playing on the lack of mobility of one of the opposing pair and Joel smacking forehands
winners from the baseline, it was an easy win. Tray and Colin contrived to make the final rubber a
little more competitive by dropping serve then breaking back until they ran out winners 6-3:6-4.
A light lunch in the very nice Clubhouse (amazing what you can do when you flog some land for £1m)
was capped by opposing skipper Chris’s homemade cake to round off a friendly match and the
second 4-0 for the 2 nd team in the winter league. Can they keep it up? The squad is big enough!
