Pav & Ave 2’s draw with the Weald in entertaining match

The mens 2nd team turned out an exceptionally good looking crew to face The Weald 5th team yesterday Sunday 12th Aug. Neil, Des , Alan and Steve Davies had an huge age disadvantage against them but put up a brave fight ( well, Steve and Alan did anyway) to grind out a draw.  Neil and Des just relaxed a bit in the match tie break after losing the first set 6-1 then coming back to win the second 6-3. Playing a tiebreak at these dizzy heights can get to a chap Neil discovered!

It has to be said that the games were all really competitive but played with a high level of corinthian spirit on all sides. We had a fine match tea of Neil’s Jamaican Mum’s jerk chicken and a nice veggy tortilla with salad and cake. The Weald were a really nice bunch of guys and it is beginning to be a case of looking forward to local derbies against them and Grasshoppers who, unsurprisingly, have the edge when it comes to post match carousing!

The draw raised us up to second from bottom of the league albeit if we have played one more game than the team propping us up but as our most valuable player says ‘ Points in the bag mate!’.

If anyone (male sorry, hope that is acceptable?) wants to be a part of this fun and supportive team and try to bring the average age down they will be welcomed so text Neil on 07860 946 921. We have a decent sized squad that plays regularly and informally but always room for one more!
