Changing Rooms and Shower Policy

Pavilion & Avenue Tennis Club strives to ensure that all children are safeguarded from harm and have an enjoyable tennis experience.

This document sets out our policy for the acceptable use of our changing rooms.

  1. To reduce any risks and potential vulnerability associated with mixing adults and children, when changing and showering, we ask that where possible all members and visitors arrive ready for play. We appreciate that some may be coming directly from school/work.
  2. Parents / Carers are reminded, as per the welcome / membership renewal email & LTA guidelines, that children under the age of 13 must be supervised by parents/carers whilst on the premises, except when they are taking part in coaching sessions. Children aged 13 and over are allowed to enter the changing room without parental supervision.
  3. If adult members are using the changing room, as you enter, we ask that parents with children use the disabled toilet / changing area – especially where the child is of a different gender to the parent. Please be swift when using the facility and mindful of people with disabilities who may wish to use this area too. Alternatively, the area behind the shower curtain area, in each changing room, can be used for private changing for parents assisting children.
  4. Parents are asked to take their child to the toilet on arrival to potentially reduce the need during sessions.
  5. Children must not use the changing areas to socialise and play in.
  6. Under no circumstances will adult staff, coaches or volunteers change or shower at the same time as children using the changing rooms.
  7. Mixed-gender groups of children have access to separate changing rooms.
  8. If we are made aware that a child or adult self-identifies as a gender that differs from the gender assigned at birth, we will work with them and their parents/carers (where it relates to a child) to make reasonable adjustments to changing arrangements to suit their needs.
  9. Mobile phones and other electronic devices must not be used in changing rooms.
  10. For younger groups of children attending squad/coaching sessions, a DBS checked member of staff or volunteer will wait outside the changing rooms to allow children to call for assistance if required. The staff member/volunteer will check the changing area prior to use by the child.
