Sonay’s Summer Progress in 2018 and representing Great Britain

“I had an amazing summer this year, In April I won my first ITF tournament which was held in Nottingham.

That boosted my under 18 world ranking from being around 1000 in the world to 400.

I then travelled to Czech Republic and had an amazing tournament, reaching the semi finals and beating players ranked inside the top 100.

Definitely the two highlights for me this year were playing in Junior Wimbledon and winning a round in doubles, just being there and experiencing what all the top professionals do and being surrounded by the best juniors in the world was amazing and seeing all your 10 years of hard work you put in finally starting pay off.

The other highlight is definitely representing Great Britain in the under 18 European Summer Cup, being picked to play for your country is an incredible feeling. My ranking is currently 250 in the world, my plan next year is to keep improving my junior ranking and play in all the junior grand slams plus start to feature in some of the women’s professional tournaments.”
