Pav & Ave has around 170 junior members with an age range of 3 years to 18 years. Many of our junior members take part in the coaching programme which caters for all ages and levels, from mini red, mini orange, mini green to traditional yellow ball squads.

LPDC Status – Local Player Development Centre

The LTA has recently changed the Player Performance Pathway for individuals looking to maximise their potential with the eventual goal to become tennis professionals.

There will now be 2 National Academies and 11 Regional Centres nationwide. Pav & Ave applied to become an LPDC (Local Player Development Centre) and we are very pleased to have been selected as one of only two in the County and one of fifty in the Country.

As an LPDC our main objective is to provide regular, high-quality local training and competitions for aspiring players aged 10 and under.

We are looking to attract athletic children into the game and positively nurture and enhance their development and love of the game.

The LPDC will run alongside our existing Club programme which will continue to cater for all ages and standards.

At Pav & Ave we have always approached our coaching from a holistic angle seeing the sport as one that cannot only be played for life but also teaches invaluable and transferable life skills. These include,

  • The importance of sport and physical activity from a health perspective with enjoyment and confidence-building being the ultimate aims.
  • Social interaction and communication
  • Respect for the Club, Coaches and fellow members, and
  • Hard work, discipline and being competitive in a fair and honest manner

We have achieved international success from players in our current programme (see below for more details.) We are not only proud of that, we are also delighted to be seen as a positive pillar within the community, having an open door for youngsters (as far as membership constraints permit), a relaxed feel in the club, and a strong desire among the coaching team to have a positive effect on the lives of young people.

Pavilion and Avenue TC has produced players at County, Regional, National and International level. In the last three years we have had three players representing Great Britain, one of whom played Junior Wimbledon last year. We look forward to continuing to help develop high-quality players who love the game.

Tennis Mark Status

Pavilion & Avenue has ‘Tennis Mark’ status, which is a mark of excellence awarded by the LTA in recognition of following guidelines concerning club management, coaching and child protection.

Competition, tournaments, and plaudits

Juniors may take part in their own competitions including mini red, orange, green and yellow ball events. In addition, matchplays are run for players looking for extra match play opportunities. We also enter quite a few teams into the county leagues which the players always enjoy taking part in.

During the Easter holidays, the club hosts the ‘Pav & Ave Junior Open’, a grade 4 tournament attracting players from outside the county as well as many of our own juniors. During the Spring/Summer the club’s Closed Championships take place.
