The match started under beautiful sunny weather only to be stopped for half an hour by a downpour at the beginning of the second matches. As we were drifting towards abandoning the match which would have given us a draw, the sun thought it would be a good idea to make an appearance and gave an easy win.
The first pair of the Pavilion & Avenue Ladies 2nd team (Josephine Acerenza and Hilary Jewers) won their first set 6-0 /6-1. Encouraged by their win they went on to win their second match vs the Green first pair Christine Greenwood and Sheilagh King 6-3 / 6-3. With Hilary superb net skills and Joséphine strong and consistent defence it was a pairing made in heaven and ensured our overall victory.
Our second pair Jemma Turner and Karen Uden put up a valiant effort but lost the first match in a championship tie break 10-5 vs the opposition 1st pair Christine Greenwood and Sheilagh King. Very frustrating as they were leading 4-1. Not discouraged by the result of the first match Jemma and Karen Showed their true skills and went on to win their second match vs the opposition 2nd pair Louise Gorman and Grace Amarel 6-4 / 6-2.
All in all a good day’s work with a few laugh on the way.
